ok when i turn my computer on, my fans turn on, the lights in the fron turn on, and my cd drives turn on, and i hear an utter or two from my harddrive but it doesnt actually load anything. my monitor doesnt turn on but i know my monitor is functional. i turn my monitor on manually and the screen says "check signal" and sometimes it says "sleep mode" for a few seconds and then it turns off again.

judging by the lack of noise from the loading of the hard drive, im guesnig it doesnt even get close to loading much of DOS, let alone windows xp. if i reset the computer like 20 times or so i get 5 beeps and then nothing new. i only ge tlights on my keyboard when i get the 5 beeps, but they only flash on then turn off.

me and my dad opened it up and air dusted it off and then took out the ram and put it back in (just for the heck of it) and it worked once. however, i tried to start up a video game while in windows and then it shut down again and since then even after dusting it it won start up. we put a new battery in the motherboard and still nothing.

is this a power supply problem or could it be the motherboard?

It could be a number of things But I don't believe your power supply could be the problem I am however thinking that it could be your hard drive Your hard drive shouldn't be making any noise at all If you turn your computer on and it make that utter noise again then it's time for a new one Carlos Millan Jr.
