Modem connection (dialling-up) when no application is open. and the machine is completey idle

My Win98SE PC has recently started initiating a modem connection (dialling-up) when no application is open. and the machine is completey idle.

It is not the mail application (OE 5)

This is a new phenomenon

Only change has been installation of NetNany 5 BUT this is set not to dial-up at all.

Any ideas to help me investigate further?

It mihgt be that the new software is conflicting with the modem Try uninstaling it to see how the modem work If the problem persid It just might be that your modem need replasing.
