Stop pop up ads

Recently, when I'm on the NY Times or other site, a huge Orbitz trael agency ad pops up and I can't get rid of it withoiut shutting down the computer. Any suggestions?

Your best suggestion is to get the mozilla web browser from mozilla.org....

not only is it more secure, it also has a setting to stop unrequested new windows (POP-UPS)..

You can install software to block pop ups
