I had a crash on my toshiba laptop satelite 1905 (xp home) and want to transfer the data from that hardrive to my desktop described on the previous page. I have the adapters for this. But when I hooked up the laptop drive to the ribbon cable as a secondary drive, I got a message searching for boot information. After disconnecting the drive from my laptop the desktop booted fine. What steps do I have to take to have my desktop recognize this drive to recover the data on that drive?

Connect your lab top drive to become slave to desktop drives(your desk top drive will be primary master while the lap drive will become primary slave
