How does my computer stay functional?

when ever i let my pc sit after use the mouse gets very sluggish and eveything takes a long time to come up. if i try to go into standby it does not allow me to . i have to reboot to get everything working up to speed??

I suggest you get a new fan, install more memory, or change OS Overheating could also cause the problem, or just a unreliable OS Try not to run too many programs at once that tends to slow the computer, also try to delete useless programs that you don't use, they're just taking space in your computer.
