I had a scanner and eventually removed it and bought another one. Since that time, I have one blank page print out as the PC is booting up. About 5 minutes later, another page with garbage on it prints out. I've tried whatever HP suggested and they couldnt help. Their last suggestion was to wipe out my hard drive and start over. I would prefer being annoyed at these phantom pages printing out then starting from scratch.

This is a printer problem and it could be cause by the cable or the drivers If you think is from the cable check the cable a make sure is no more than 3 feet and is a IEEE 1284 cable compatible Check the parallel mode is you are using a parallel at the CMOS setup and make sure is either ECC or ECP mode or autodetec if you have that feature.

If you have a USB connection with the printer, than make sure there is no other USB device and it should be compatible with your computer and have the same version such as USB version 2.0.

If is not the cable problem then download latest driver from HP website, If your HP printer has button panels try to find a reset setting, or turn it on and off After you have dowload and install the latesrt driver then make a test page to this if you have a problem.

Also check the autoexec.exe and config.sys files, and see if there is a printer settings or a LPT settings writen lines, if you do disable by typing REM or ; at the beginning of the line.
