Why doesn't my external cd-rw drive show up as a drive?

I recentley bought a memorex cd-rw external drive. All the programs are installed and run and the unit comes on. The unit does not show up as a drive, I tried adding new hardware to add a drive, but I have not been able to get it to come up. I have tried just about everthing I can think of.

This probably means that the computer does not recognize the brand of the cd-rw or the model it is Re-installing it should correct the problem, so it will show up in the My Computer folder.
