What is computer seem to run on ME but I cannot access them via 2000?

I have acquired a computer which has installed on it windows me and 2000 professional. Programs previously installed on this computer seem to run on ME but I cannot access them via 2000. I would prefer to use the 2000 because I am told it is a more stable system. What should I do?

Reinstall the softwares under windows 2000 Windows me & Windows 2000 are not the same formats through similar but has much difference.
