Bothered by popups?

I am being taunted by pop up's that tell me my computer is leaking my IP address on the Internet and unless I go a specific websidt and buy their software, it will continue to happen. Lately I have received more and more from different vendors. Some have been close to porno. these are worse than telemarketers calling at dinner hour. I refuse to be forced to buy this software. Is there anything I can do? Others I know do not have this problem. Thanks for your help!
