How can i stop getting pop-ups

I am very frustrated and need some help. I have a spyware/adware problem that I cannot get rid of. I run SpyHunter and Ad-aware 6 and am still getting popups all the time. I will sometimes leave my computer for 15min and will have 10 popups on my screen. What can I do to get rid of this problem. If I wipe my hard drive and start over will this work? Or will they still come through the IP address? What if any suggestions do you have. Please help, I use my computer for work and for personal business and this kind of invasion of privacy worries me. Thank you
