What is a monitor problem

Hi,

When trying to startup my computer, it won't start. The power starts but nothing will boot up and the monitor light won't go on. I was wondering if you had any suggestions as to what may have caused this.

I could be many things but the first step I would take is check the monitor connection If a pin is bent on your serial port it show no display It could also be the cable of your monitor If that isn't the problem, what I would do is try another monitor and take it from there.
