I have a dell latitude running a PII at 233 mHz. I bought it used with Windows 98 and the computer locks up about half-way through start up for Windows. I upgraded to Windows 2000 last week and the same thing happens at about the mid-point. After 3 or 4 shut-downs (holding the on/off button for about 10 seconds) the computer will finally start up and run fine. I have started up 14 times straight with no problem, but the very next day I stuck again. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

It could be that you need to add more RAM You can also try to clean up your hard drive and do a defragment and disk clean up You can do so by going to your local hard drive and right click then go to properties you will able to do it from there Otherwise you can save all of your data to another hard drive or cd, then do a full format for your entire hard drive You can do so by put windows 2000 in your cd drive then restart your pc when pc starts up it will ask you if you want to install click yes From there on follow the steps until it gives you the option to do a fresh system format click yes But a warning: Everything from your hard drive will be deleted
