Why does the challenge handshake authentication protocol check my username and password twice when i logon to my isp

why does the challenge handshake authentication protocol check my username and password twice when i logon to my isp??? this started happening suddenly when the modem dialled up when windows was started. then nothing would work then username and password are checked twice. this increases the length of time it takes to get online by 3 times. when online everything seems ok.

Hard to know exactly why its happening but in my experience most handshake problems are due to the mdoem drivers, try reinstalling the modem.
