Why doesn't Win XP recognize Optical drives?

my win xp stopped recognizing optical drives

You should go to the Microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx) to see if they support this device Also check with the manufacturer of the drive to see what the hardware/software requirements are.
