When I try to use the win98 startup menu, (safe mode, etc.), the computer lockes up: no choice selection; no 30 sec. timer, just freezes. The only way to go further is to use the reset to restart the machine. I have tried everything I know to get it back. Thank you for any help.

You could have one of many problems such as RAM BIOS settings incorrectly configured or bad Boot Sector on hd drive There could be any number of problems you should have someone look at your computer if you are not familiar with it.
