Why won't my computer turn on?

When i try and power up my computer it wont turn on. I though it could be the power supply but my monitor is turn on which is connected to my computer. I moved about the power cable that connects to the back of my computer and have got it to power up but as soon as it gets to load windows it shuts off and wont start up again. It now doesn't seem to load up atall now. but the monitor is still getting power! HELP!

You may need to buy a new power cord for the hard drive this could be the cause of the hard drive not getting power.
