Why doesn't my monitor stay on ?

After the basic boot up information appears on the monitor it goes blank. After an improper shut down the scan is visible, normal in color and quality, but when it is finished the screen goes blank. It appers to stop or go blank at the point the Windows information would normally be seen.

This maybe a virus and not the computer, have you scan your computer for viruses It doesn't sound so much like it is the monitor, something is causing the hard drive to shut down on and off.
