my yahoo email and my wifes hot mail run very slow. when I try to compose a email as i type it takes a few seconds or longer for the typing to show up on the screen. If I try to use any of the icons they will cause the page to lock up to the point that I need to control alt delete to release the page. I tried a uninstall and reinstall, turned off the adsubtract, rebooted the puter, looked in my files for a odd download, checked my norton system foe a virus, and everything seems ok. I defraged the system did a disk clean up, and still the same problem, and yes I do get your newsletter, and it has helped me with other problems that I have had. I do have a linksys 4 port router system but i only use one port. I use this system for the built in firewall and protection because I do leave my computer in stand-by at all times.

thanks again Greg

Hi Greg.

It seems like you have a problem with memory That is what seems to be causing all of the lag I notice you have a cable modem so i was wondering does this happen on other sites as well, or is it just your yahoo email?

The main causes of this as far as i can tell from what you described could be programs running in the background eating up your memory For example if you look to the bottom right of your taskbar those are considered as programs running As well as your startup folder I see you said you use norton system doctor which in my personal experience is known to be a memory consumer Only because it is constantly running in the background and doing checks You also mentioned you have a firewall up as well which could be conflicting with your Norton System doctor.

Solution...

I suggest to try a few things For one disable all the programs in your startup folder and the applications running in the background that are not needed You can do this by pressing Cntrl alt del keys simultaneously This will bring up a dialogue of all the programs running on your machine. After you have closed those that youd ont need out, take down your firewall and disable your norton Then try opening up Internet Explorer and accessing your yahoo email That should do it I know it seems like a lot to do just to access email This suggestion was just to see if that was the case If it is the case of programs taking up memory you will have to learn to tweak it just right so you will be able to access your email and then after that bring those programs back up if need be

Another solution is you might want to upgrade your memory which should take care of the problem You can get an upgrade from your 128MB RAM to 256MB of RAM which should improve on the applications running in the background.

Lastly sometimes it is not your computer that is slow It could be yahoo's servers because at times they have more traffic than others which could cause a slight delay in accessing email.

I hope this information has helped you.

Good luck
