I just upgraded my AOL package from 7.0 to 8.0 Plus. The package is now "buggy" with failures in shutdown of AOL, startup of the PC, strange icon behaviors, etc...

Also, it appears that during the upgrade process, not all components of 7.0 were removed. It looks like parts of 7.0 are still in the Program Files folder.

I made a CD backup of my AOL 7.0 folder having copied the folder to CD from the Program Files folder prior to initiating the upgrade.

HOW CAN I REVERT TO AOL 7.0 WHICH HAD FAR FEWER (IF ANY) BUGS? WILL I STILL HAVE TO TWEAK THE REGISTRY TO REPAIR PROBLEMS HIDDEN IN MY SYSTEM?

Note, in looking over web references to AOL bugs, there seems to be a common recommendation to "downgrade" to 7.0.

Hello,

FIRST OFF.. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR REGISTRY..I REPEAT DO NOT TOUCH YOUR REGISTRY..especially not for aol The registry holds very important data and any changes could result in computer failure and loss of your personal information.

Now on to the solution . Uninstall aol You can do this by insterting an aol disk.. It will then check to see previous aol versions installed on your computer. in which you will have the choice now to remove them remove any traces of aol that they find Then install the AOL 8.0 disk and do a full install I am thinking because you did an upgrade you had trouble Because the old aol was conflicting with the new one But if you would like aol 7.0 and play it safe go ahead and pop that cd in And there yah go you should be fine..

Word of advice. never ever touch the registry if you do not know what your doing. especially not for a program like aol no matter what they tell you :)

i hope this has helped
