What is C Drive

I am trying to clean up my c drive, but everytime it gets to files and folders, it keeps starting over and over. Finally it will say, that I need to close some programs for it to go any further. I did not think I had any programs open. How do I close them and how do I find out which ones are running? Please help me. Thank you

You can look at the taskbar at the bottom of the display screen this will let you know if you have any program running or not what I also suggest for you to do is run scand disk first before you try to run disk clean up
