What is speakers

i have just recently installed windows XP and i cannot get any audio output through my speakers, even though it is all connected up correctly and windows media player is playing the audio cd.

You may need to install the drivers for the audio in your computer, this may be the reason why you are not hearing any sound Another posibility could be that the volume is turned off, try clicking on start then setting in the control panel double click sound or speaker and see if there is a check along the bottom of properties screen if there is uncheck it.
