When click on the down arrow at the end at the address bar while on the internet all previous web site adresses come up

When you click on the down arrow at the end of the adress bar while on the internet all previous web site adresses come up.This is ok but they are cumulative and there are too many including the mistyped ones and those that I do not use any longer.How can some of them or all of them be deleted or edited so I can start out with a clean slat or at least keep them to a minimum.

PS: I also have the same problem with my other older computer with a windows 98 OS.
