Cannot change default page from internet setting

my default home page on my web browser has been taken over by some obscure search engine...resetting my internet settings does not solve the problem...i cannot change the default page from this search engine...now my browser is slow despite a fast connection...it's really slow and sometimes it freezes...when i type text the cursor moves but no text appears...what is your expert opinion??? thanks...greg

You should chek the default setting is it gain or gator uninstall if so.
