What is ram

I recently tried to start a computer that worked fine a week ago. All that comes up on the monitor is the word "Compaq" with a blinking light in the upper left corner. I checked all the connections, inside and out. Tried another monitor same results. Tried the recovery disk from Compaq, nothing. Tried a disk in the A drive, nothing. I tried bringing up safe mode, but could not even bring that up.

Any suggestions?? Thanks

I had the same problem with my computer It was a compaq and what I found out was the ram that I had was the right one for my computer It worked for a two days but then I started receiving just the compaq loge I replace the ram with the proper spec and now it is running fine.
