Want to block msn messenger on computer

Is there any way I can block MSN Messenger on my computer by changing the settings? I keep getting messages that say they are "messenger service" that tell me I am exposed to different internet annoyances, stop unwanted eyes from tracking your internet activity, etc. Then I can go to their websites any pay $9.95 for their program to make them go away. Is this a messenger problem or something else? I purchased McAfee Firewall and installed it and these things still keep coming through. Thank you.
