What is virus

I had the Blaster virus. The Mcafee security virus scan online keeps finding and killing it. I have downloaded the patch from Microsoft. Every time I try to install it I get an error message. The message is "KB823980 Setup Error" "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer." I checked the to make sure the cryptograpgic service was started and on automatic. There are some other issues also. I can't send e-mails but I recieve them. I try to use the search tool to search for files and programs and it will not work at all. I tried a system restore and got no place. Please help. I'm going nuts. Thank You, Scott
