I have an optical mouse connected via usb. Recently my mouse curser has been slowing down, as if the speed had been adjusted in the Control Pannel, but the setting has not been changed. It will also skip, freeze on the screen for a few seconds and resume as if nothing had changed. It will show the hourglass symbol where ever it had frozen. It will not freeze in place, it will reappear in the location that it should be as if it had not frozen at all. For example, if I am highlighting text, it will freeze in the middle of the sentence and I will stop trying to highlight and let go of the mouse. When it is no longer frozen, It will have highlighted the entire sentence or more depending on how much I moved the mouse after it froze. Occasionally it will freeze up completely, the light in the optical mouse will go out and it will not respond if I unplug or plug it back in to the usb port. It will return to semi-working order if I reboot. I have done a full virus scan and stopped all background tasks using CodeStuff Starter. No other usb mouse has been tried on my computer at this time.
