What is the hard drive

on day i turned on my computer and it said operating system not found i tryed reistalling it but it wont reconize the hard drive.. i checked out the hard drive and its not it. i put it in anouth machine and worked fine.. and befor when i would start it up it would just be a blinking curser befor it would go in to windows and it would have to stay like that for a few hours befor it would even go into windows... i dont know whats wrong with it and HP want me to pay 400.00 to get it repaired and i dont have that money just to blow away... can u please help in any way??

I had a similar problem and the way I resolved it was by going into my BIOS and I had to make it a master instead of a slave.
