What is word

I have Microsoft Word 2000. When I type a number and sentences following the number, then press Enter, Word automatically goes i nto Number List mode, and I don't want that. How do I cancel Number List? I never click on the icon for Number List. Urgent.

Right click on mouse and click properties and disable it from there
