How can I get my cd rom to open and read my cd's automatically?

I put a cd into my cdrom, but it does not open or read the cd automatically. I have to go to my computer and manually open or install the cd. I have changed the cdrom twice, and still get the same results. I have tried several different cd's and all do the same, not opening automatically. I can put the cd's into another computer cdrom and the same cd's will open on it.

The reason for this email, is that I just purchased a Micro Advantage CD-Rw Burner and was only able to burn one cd. The others would lock up, at 15 to 20%, then the computer would lock up, while at the same time, the cd burner light was constantly blinking as if it was doing the job. By this time, I am unable to end the task, via Ctrl,Alt,Del, or shut down the PC. I have to manually power it off. I thought it might be the cdrom causing the problem. Contacted Office Max and they said to bring the burner back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Jim

This happens to be a software matter, I recommend that you open up your cd rom and check it out, see the inside of it and if you can detect what is wrong with it by your own knowledge, if you do not know then the following step is to get in contact with a professional.
