How can I get my printer back after the massive blackout?

After the resident massive blackout, my computer came on but not my printer. The message that comes up is: An unknown error has occurred.

Unplug your printer and contact your dealer or authorized service center. What can i do to reinstall the printer.

Well the only thing you can do for the time being is check your warranty if you have one, and the qualifications for it.
