IMAGE DO NOT LOAD AUTOMATICALLY IF RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT SHOW PICTURE THEY DO

I'm running IE 5.5 on a Win2k machine. Recently, images have not been loading automatically (If I rigth click and select "Show Picture", they do load). I have checked all the setting and they are normal and appropriately set for image viewing. Seldomly, .gif images will load, but that is it. What is the reason for this problem and how do I correct it???
