What is a sp1

I installed the XP service pack 1 and all critical updates to XP Pro and now pictures do not display in my IE 6. If I right click and pick display pictures, they show. I have checked everything in my setup regarding displaying pictures and set up all security settings to default but still cannot get pictures to display without right clicking on the pictures. Some sites are better than others. When I uninstall the sp1, pictures display again. Can I operate without the sp1? Is there something I can upgrade on IE6 that will restore the pictures without having to uninstall the XP sp1?

I had the same problem and all I did was uninstall the sp1 and it still runs great I also find that sp1 my system runs slower.
