What could be a protocol problem

I have two computers connected by crossover for network with intel 10/100. Host computer has 98se os and dsl by quest/msn...client has win me os and dial up modem 56k/aol. I have recognition on files and printer. I tried to get client to recognize host for internet connection. Do you have a procedure to recommend? How can I get client to recognize dsl on host? I have enable internet connection sharing. Can Win me and win 98 network as os?
