Lately I am unable to open up Internet Explorer [I have IE 6] or open up any .HTML or .JPG
files from within Explorer. I get a "[EXPLORER] This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" message with details "Explorer caused a general protection fault in module user.exe at 000a:00002730, etc.". [Note: The cause is apparently EXPLORER,
not IEXPLORE[R]]. Usually the desktop also then goes white with the usual message headed by the title "Active Desktop Recovery". I can't find anything [yet] on the Microsoft site and I don't know exactly how I can obtain or use the Microsoft Error Reporting tool, without being able to even open up Internet Explorer. I am able nevertheless to continue using the Internet Explorer "properties" tab [when right clicking on the IE icon] and do the usual things there
[e.g. purging the cache, deleting the history, etc.]. Thanks so much.
Harry.
[P.S. you helped me with my Dec. 5, 2002 problem].

Use IE Eradicator to delete Internet Explorer.

Make sure you have downloaded the IE6 setup files first, but not loaded Backup your Favorites folder.
