What are possible solutions to .zip extaction problems?

Sometimes when I download from an e-mail there is no problem while it is downloading. After I have located it and then click on it to view the download, everything just starts flashing real fast and my computer freezes up. The only way I can get out of it is to shut the computer down. I cannot shut down thru start or thru exiting any other way. This does not happen in all downloads, just seems to be when they are a zip file. Please help......this is very frustrating....oh, by the way, they are usually pictures.

Do you have a zip file decompressor program like Winzip, or Winrar? If so, have you tried uninstalling the program and then reinstalling the program?

if you dont have the Winzip or Winrar programs you can get the free trials from the manufacturers website.
