All of a sudden my sound volume icon in the system tray is gone. I have tried all the various diagnostics, and I keep getting" there are no audio devices installed and no sound card." most of the cp's boxes are greyed out I have checked the control panel and tried to put the windows default as my sound default but i get the message I cannot save the windows default. I do not have the ME operating disc. I must have a sound caard, since it was working fine and then it's gone. I tried updating sound drivers but no luck. I do not want to open the tower and play with the motherboard and/or sound card. Connections are fine. I reinstalled windows media 9 but no luck.
Any suggestions?
thank you

May I suggest using the ME system restore utility (start>programs>accessories>system tools) This utility can be used to revert windows back to a previously saved state (the most recent before your sound card stopped working) I would recomend backing up important files before using this utility
