Let Data Doctors be your personal IT department today

hi there, great site, im sure everyone here appreciates the help!

I recently purchased a new Harddrive on account of the fact that my old one died. I had some of my data restored by a professional and and i cleanly installed a new OS (windows 98) as well as new hardware drivers. At this point my system is pretty bare, ive made quite certain that only thing running on startup is the bare bare essentails...furthermore ive doublechecked all my hardware connections and fans, everything appears to OK....

SO... the thing keeps crashing... no blue screen it just stops, i can move the mouse pointer, but it does nothing and i have to hit ctrl alt del 4 time and it resets. Its driving me nuts, i ve tried scan disk and a virus scanner... but they came to nothing, it seems to crash under load, ie when i play a video and atttempt to resize the screen or when i load a website and am closing several popups. Im going nuts. I realise that this is a pretty generic problem and it can be caused by many things that i havent noticed, but ANY suggestion u have would be great, the machine is out of warranty and im out of patience.

Thanx again for your help, and this site its much appreciated.

Hello...

Wow i hate these kind of generic problems As you said it can definately be a number of things. One of things i would do first is check to make sure i have all the windows updates After that, check the programs that start up at startup to make sure they are not hoggin all the memory and resources especially if i dont need them Next check to see what services and processes are using up cpu resources which could be causing the cpu to become bombarded The last thing is invest in a pop up stopper The one i use is pop up stopper companion which is very good Kills just about 99% of all popups and alsop has a great cookie feature to stop gettin cookies from sites other that the destination site.

I hope this has helped you

Good luck
