Why does my computer dial out?

Periodically our computer automatically dials out. This happens at times when we are not even on the computer however it is on. The dialing out takes about a minute and then disconnects.

Any ideas?

Maybe the problem is that your connection is not stablelize and therefor it keeps disconnecting Another problem is that maybe your connection is a phone line and people keep trying to use the phone line through a phone line.
