My question was answered on September 15th 2003. I asked, " I was running scandisc, when my computer shut down. Now all I get is the Setup menu. It instructes me to "command prompt only" with the message "windows detected a registration/configuartion error." I am prompted to run "scanreg" (also tried "scanreg/restore) All I get is a blue screen with the saying on top "Microsoft Registry Checker" amd on the bottom, "Checking System Files...." There is no yellow progress line, and I have left this meesage on for over 16 hours"

The answer was to reinstall Windows 98.

How do I do this? I have found no way for my computer to recognize either the back up floppy or the 98 CD. I can not get into safe mode. I can not get anywhere with this problem. And I don't want to try anything that might mess it up completely. So, how do I reinstall Windows 98 & should I use the floppy or CD?

Thanx!

Sharon Northrop

If the cd rom that you have for Windows 98 is bootable you can use it, if not you will have to boot from the floppy drive This is what you do, you need to get a bootable floppy disk from a

Windows 98, after you have the boot up disk you need to put it in the floppy drive then restart or start your system this will bring you to the A prompt type fdisk after you partition the drive , make the c drive as the active partition and then you will need to format the drive once by typing format /c after this is accomplish then you will be able to install windows 98.
