What is partitions

After reformatting my 30 Gig slave hard drive (because I was having trouble with one of the partitions), I created one large partition instead of the original 2 partitions. Since that time my computer thinks there are 2 CD-roms (drives H & I) in the machine (H was the designation of the old hard drive partition). It also says that the false drive (H) is a DOS format and my machine has become very slow. Is there a way for me to get rid of the reference to one of the CD drives (and still be able to access the CD that I do have)? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think you should change the hard drive and use one.
