This the step that you had to do:

-Run scandisk several time (not a standard scan, a full throughout) do this in MS-DOS realmode, then run the disk defragmenter.

-delete unneeded files and empty Recycle bin, type at the run dialog box temp and delete all the files to increase more swap file.

-Run a current version of antivirus software clean and delete all files that contain viruses.

-Restore the system file by typing sfc on the run dialog box and follow the procedure.

-Check applications load at the startup that might be using to much resource, you can check which application is taking too much resources such as memory, process by the System Monitor, it should be at start, program, Accessories, system tools, system monitor if you don't have it then you need to install it from add/remove program.

-Reduce the Icon on your system tray which is locate at the right side of your taskbar.

-Cleanup your registry use this command scanreg /opt either trying in MS-DOS realmode or in the run dialog box.

-Remove extraneous software such as fancy Screen savers and desktop wallpaper and photos.
