What is reinstalling the card?

We got an NVidia GeForce 4 MX 440 with AGP 8X graphics card a while ago. Ever since we got it my computer has been doing the following. (locking up and saying "the system has recovered from a serious error caused by a device driver") The device manager says there's nothing wrong with the card. We update our drivers often. That doesnt help. Freezing happens when playing a game, trying to zip a folder, and dragging a folder or file. Please help.
