Did you try this

my hp printer will print 25-50 pages of a letter/digit to a couple of lines of garbage.This problem mostly occures after my kids have worked on project? once printer has cleared its self printer works fine (hp 970)

Check the debris that might be interfering with the printer operation

replace the toner cartridge

replace the laser drum
