What to do to set up a home or small network?

how can i setup a LAN network among a few computers?I just wish to know how to configure the network setting for Windows 98 and XP?

If you have a Windows XP operating system, in the main window click on Start and go to the control panel, in the control panel window, click on network and internet connections, click set up or change your home or small office connection When the Network Set up Wizard opens follow the instructions until you have finish installing the network set up
