Why is my computer keep getting frozen

My Computer freezes whenever i play certain Videos, Mostly Div-X (avi), some mpegs. I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the operating system. Yet the problem still exists. I replaced my RAM chip that i had added later on (and used for around 6 months) with the old chip that the computer had originally come with (64MB) and tried to play a movie. The computer froze again. Also, my computer suddenly freezes when I am not doing anything either than surfing the web. I update my anti - virus software and have cleaned any viruses on my computer. But the computer continues to freeze. Whats the problem??

Have you added something recently right before this started happening? Try removing things you dont need to run the computer example: printer, scanner, any USB products and then try and load up your computer and see how it runs It also might be a problem with the video card.
