Is you network card that you bought or someone gave it to you? Well I have some suggesting:

1 Install the card physically on two different PCI slot of you computer Once you Install the NIC, check to see if Windows 98 can detect the Card if not then double click on the Add/ Remove hardware on the control panel If this doesnt work than I conclude that you have an Old NIC that is not a Plug and Play.

2 Go to the website of the NIC manufacture and see what kind of setting can be set up for the NIC If you don't know check the NIC brand and see if it has a serial number or a nick name.

3 If still doesn't work try to Install to a different PCI slot and make your it is snap in If this doesn't then you have a fault NIC.
