WHY DOESN'T MY MEDIA PLAY SMOOTHLY?

all my movies (dvdx, mpeg, avi, wmv, mpg) no longer play correctly. They skip, so all I get to watch it bits and pieces. The auto and video both skip, so there is no smooth play. Also all of my mp3 files skip as well.

I've tried to watch the vid's and listen to the mp3's on the following players with the same results: Ashampoo Media Player+, Windows Media Player 9, WinAmp, QuickTime Player.

This happens to files even when I try to run them from cd's that i burnt off long before this problem started, so I don't see it as file corruption....

I don't remember how long ago it stared or if I had modified anything at the time.

Any help would be great!

This is my system:

Win98se

MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR SATA+Audio+LAN+8x AGP

AMD Athlon XP 2400+

512MB DDR SDRAM PC3200

ASUS V9520TD FX5200 128MB

Thanks,

David

IN SITUATIONS JUST LIKE THIS, THE PROBLEM IS USUALLY RAM IT WOULD BE A VIDEO CARD, BUT SINCE THE MP3'S ARE ALSO AFFECTED, THE SOUND CARD IS INVOLVED THIS POINTS MORE AND MORE TOWARD A MEMORY ISSUE.
