What happen when you have a corrupt software?

i Cant open any programs or files on my computer. It say there already open or have been renamed Im not sure what to do to get rid of that or close all files

This might be a corrupt software that you might had install or download and is taking up memory and which generate this kind of errors You could also possibly had been infected by a Virus that is causing this kind of errors.

What you can do is to bootup your computer in safe mode by pressing F5 or F8 to go to the Start Menu and choose safe mode Then at the Run dialog box which should be at the start button type MSconfig and select the Startup tab and see if you see a weird program that you thing is causing the problem by uncheck the chekbox.

Also at the General Tab, select the selective startup option and uncheck one by one after each reboot and see which of this file is causing the problem.

also uninstall program that might be causing a problem at the add/remove program while you in safe mode I suggest to update your antivirus and make a full scan while you in safe mode, after this than update your windows 98 by going to microsoft website.
