The Battle of the Browsers
Web users should welcome the battle being waged between Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla’s Firefox 2. Netizens stand victorious regardless of who wins this war. Innovation, security, and functionality are the by-products and we are the lucky beneficiaries.
It has been five years since the software king rolled out Internet Explorer 6, crushing Netscape in the first browser war. Microsoft relaxed. Hackers everywhere took aim. IE6 now has more patches than a cabbage farm.
Last month Microsoft released the much-awaited version 7 of Internet Explorer. Mozilla made some minor tweaks to its already stalwart browser, keeping its momentum into mainstream browsing with version 2 of Firefox. And don't forget Opera, which, according to some, has more features and renders Web pages much more quickly than other browsers. Version 9 of Opera was released in July, in a prelude to this month’s prize fight between Microsoft and Mozilla.
Tune in this weekend as Ken, Brandon, and Chad compare the strengths and weaknesses of the world’s most popular browsers.
